Recycled Board

Are Rock-Tenn Recycled Board Products made with 100 percent Recycled Fiber? What is the post-consumer waste content?
Yes, Rock-Tenn Coated Recycled Board and Uncoated Recycled Board products are made from 100 percent recycled fiber, with an average of 35 percent post-consumer waste.

Can I use the RPA-100% symbol on my packaging that is made with a Rock-Tenn Recycled Board product?
Rock-Tenn Company is licensed for use of the RPA-100% symbol on all CRB and URB products.

The RPA -100% symbol is owned by 100% Recycled Paperboard Alliance (RPA-100%) and is reserved exclusively for licensed use on products and packaging made with 100 percent recycled paperboard. For additional information on obtaining a license to use the RPA-100% Symbol, log on to www.rpa100.com.

Are Rock-Tenn Coated Recycled Boards biodegradable and compostable?
Rock-Tenn is not aware of any constituent in our Recycled Board products that would prohibit compostability/biodegradability or that would be detrimental to the finished compost.


Bleached Board

Are Rock-Tenn paperboard products SFI® certified?
The Rock-Tenn Demopolis Mill is a SFI® Certified Participant. This means that the fiber used in the Demopolis Mill products meets the requirements of the SFI Program: Certificate # 3Y005-SF1.

This certification applies to all Rock-Tenn Bleached Board products including:

  • CartonMate® Bleached Board
  • CartonMate® Bleached Board – C2S-LC
  • CartonMate® Bleached Board – C2S-HC
  • CartonMate® Bleached Board – Mill Wax
  • CartonMate® Bleached Board – Canister

 

SFI certification does not apply to Rock-Tenn Recycled Board Products because our recycled products are made from 100 percent recycled fiber.

Can I use the SFI® “Fiber Sourcing” label on packaging that is made with a Rock-Tenn Bleached Board product?
The SFI program has a comprehensive approach to wood supply monitoring and can provide in-depth information on fiber sourcing, chain of custody (CoC) and on-product labeling. We recommend that you log onto the SFI website www.sfiprogram.org for specific information and processes regarding on-product labeling.


General Policies

Does Rock-Tenn have a formal written policy on legal compliance with domestic and/or international forestry regulations?
Yes, Rock-Tenn’s SFI® Policy specifies a commitment to achieving compliance with applicable laws and regulations. We have a system in place to ensure that applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations are implemented and executed.

Rock-Tenn’s system for ensuring regulatory compliance is based on environmental management system elements similar to those specified in ISO 14001.

The management system elements include:

  • A policy commitment to achieve continuing regulatory compliance
  • Contract provisions with landowners and loggers requiring regulatory compliance
  • Ready access to applicable laws and regulations through the internet
  • Professional Logging Manager (PLM) training of appropriate staff and contractors in applicable regulations
  • Monitoring of BMPs compliance on all purchased stumpage tracts
  • Corrective and preventative action where compliance is not adequate
  • Annual management review and continual improvement by the SFI team
